One woman’s four days

Every number on this page is a woman. Here is one, to show what “encouraged” means when it lands in a real season.

Women kneeling in prayer at the Encourage Conference
An afternoon of prayer · 5 September

She used to ask God why. Four days later she asked for prayer for her brothers.

One woman, four exchanges, 15 to 18 September. Text replies in English, names withheld.

  1. Day 0
“You know, I usually get discouraged by many things. I used to have pain every day, and I often asked God, why? But when I heard the preaching, I understood that these discouragements are not from Jesus.”

Her first message. A testimony, and inside it a season of daily pain.

  2. Day 0
“When someone finds us or searches for us, where will they find us? At the feet of Jesus, or caught up in the things of this world?”

The teaching, in her own words, minutes later.

  3. Day 1
“Please pray for my two brothers. [Family details withheld.] Because of this my mom cries a lot. I'm so sorry for sharing so much.”

Asked what she would like prayer for, she entrusts the team with her family.

  4. Day 2
“May God use you mightily and bless many people through your life and ministry.”

    She turns the prayer around.

  5. Day 3
“I hope I could be able to attend. See you on 10th October.”

Two messages, 43 seconds apart: a hope, then a decision.

Encouraged and lifted · 48 women

Two in three said it, unprompted

And most tied it to the teaching and the fellowship, not the event.

Going deeper with God · 42 women

Not a feeling. A decision.

To pray more, to sit at the feet of Jesus, to become like Mary. Encouragement turned into intent within days.

“As a mother and wife I was spiritually lost, but after attending the conference I am very much spiritually strengthened.”

Text reply · English

“Serving is important, but being at the feet of Jesus is more important, and seeking His presence is even more important.”

Key learnings

The story in four lines.

  1. The conference did its job. Two in three women who replied named being encouraged, and within days it had turned into intent: to pray more, to serve, to come back.
  2. The encouragement landed on real weight. 34 asked for prayer, and the list runs from exams to addiction and debt. This was not a comfortable room to begin with.
  3. Trust is built in exchanges, not messages. Almost every prayer ask came on the second exchange, after a person had replied. Nobody pours out to a broadcast.
  4. Courtesy is a door, not a wall. “Praise the Lord ma’am” carries no information; asked again, 10 of 24 such women went deep. These women need conversations to go deeper.
06

Where to be better

In 655 messages there is exactly one critique of the program. That is not the absence of critique; it is the culture. So here is what the women said, and what the numbers say that nobody wrote.

Assamese did not land for everyone1“I don't get it, whatever is written in Assamese.”
Cannot get leave for 10 October1“Pray that I can attend on 10 October; I don't get that much leave from the office.”

Open with praise and worship

Less dance, more worship and the Word, at the start. One voice, four messages, and a reason: it connects the room before the teaching.

07

For 10 October, and after

Three moves. Each one comes straight from what the women said.

At the door · 10 October

Start with worship. Then let them hear each other’s prayers.

One woman asked for praise and worship before the teaching, because it settles hearts before the Word. Then read out the 34 prayer asks, no names, and give each one to a woman in the room to pray through October. Let every woman in that hall hear that she was heard.

After the door

Staying encouraged, how God intended

Encouragement was never meant to be an event. It is a state, kept alive by praying for one another. Gather the 34 who asked for prayer and the women who offered it back into an intercession group: WhatsApp, weekly, by voice, in three languages. The conference is the door; the praying is the ministry.

The year

Build the equipping track the asks describe

Nine women named ministry, calling or training; 24 asked for the next step. Start with the women who asked to be equipped. CMI’s gift is discipleship, so partner with OneHope or another equipping ministry to train the teachers in what they already do.
